She’s got a couple strokes off of each wall where her head doesn’t get all the way back underwater and that’s a good area for improvement, especially in the 200. Hu has dropped from 1:53 to 1:46 in the IM since last year, and from 21.0 to 20.2 in the 50 free. On the other hand, Bray hit a lot of bests last March (and may have had a repeat showing wiped out by the pandemic) and is also good enough in long course (58.3/2:09.6 fly) to conceivably have been saving her best stuff for Olympic Trials this year. Feehery comes from a swimming family. In butterfly, she went from 1:00/2:13 to 59.6/2:11.8. without losing any of the smoothness of her stroke. It’s been well over a year since Ackerman saw any IM time drops, though, which is a concern that goes beyond just missing this spring’s meets. Projecting international recruits often becomes more a discussion of when they’ll first join a college program and not which program they’ll join. His 200 IM has cut a second since last year, but Dang will need a lot more than that to make it a viable tertiary event at the college level. Disclaimer: there are a lot of high school seniors in the country, and no really good, complete, 100% accurate listing of them all. A few other factors that weigh heavily in our rankings: Of course, there’s no way to predict the future, and the most concrete data we have to go on are cold, hard times. Foster and Urlando are both NCAA-scoring level IMers already, and there’s lots of depth and upside behind them. The top five are historically-good recruits, and you could probably argue that the top-flight, blue-chip recruits extend down even to #7 or #8. Walsh also has one of the best 50 free times in the class and should be a multi-relay threat. Best Times: 50 free – 22.29, 100 free – 48.27, 200 free – 1:46.33, 200 IM – 1:56.65, 100 back – 52.44, 100 fly – 53.26, 100 breast – 1:01.75, 200 back – 1:54.02. For whatever reason, it feels like the IM events take a lot more development to become an NCAA contributor. NFHS Rules Changes. We focus only on American-based athletes, simply because there is so much uncertainty with international recruits – if they’ll come to the states, when they’ll come to the states and with what graduating class they should be ranked. Luca Urlando (Previous Rank: #4) – Davis Aquadarts Racing Team – CK McClatchy High School – Sacramento, CA **Verbally committed to Georgia** King wasn’t really even in the mix for our list last spring, sitting at 20.5/44.5/1:41.3 in the freestyles, But he’s now among the class’s best in the 50 and 100 frees and surging after a banner end of 2018. He’s a tremendous relay option with free/fly/back chops in the shorter distances. 12/09 1:54.64. As of last year, he’d cut from 1:46 to 1:39, and kept that momentum moving down to a 1:35.9 in his junior year. She’s also really the only one in the top five who has improved her short course times since last year’s ranks. Zenick has a really natural butterfly, efficient with a quick breath and a really good snap on both her up-kick and down-kicks. Ackerman does swim some pretty crowded meet lineups (at Winter Juniors, she went 50/100/200 free, 200/400 IM and 200 back, plus relays), so a switch to college and more specialization might be just what she needs. Either way, he’ll be a hot commodity for college coaches, because he’s got serious upside and, at the very least, national team potential in long course meters. This isn’t an exhaustive list of others we considered, but the top few left off the list who made the decisions on 18-20 very difficult. 4. Her head is always moving forward, even during her recovery as the head is going back under the water – there’s no chin dropping whatsoever. Best Times: 400 IM – 3:40.86, 200 IM – 1:42.54, 200 back – 1:40.07, 100 back – 46.28, 200 free – 1:32.99, 100 free – 43.61, 50 free – 20.11, 500 free – 4:20.21, 100 breast – 53.31, 200 breast – 1:56.53, 200 fly – 1:44.11, 100 fly – 48.39. Luke Maurer (Previous Rank: #15) – NASA Wildcat Aquatics – Loyola Academy – Wilmette, IL **Verbally committed to Stanford** Cadence Showalter will bring to UWO times that would have scored in A finals of the 500 free/400 IM and B finals of the 100/200 free at 2020 WIACs. 9. Completed Apr. Ulett improved a bunch of her times over the course of two different meets this winter, showing a great overall trajectory. Keating kind of splits the difference between our other two breaststrokers in the top 10. North Carolina’s Forst fits a similar mold to Szabados – a fly/free combo through the relay distances. In fact, she’s the fastest 100 flyer we’ve ever ranked for both junior and senior classes. And she’s a fast riser with almost a second dropped in her 200 free as a senior. He is a dominant IMer who is already in scoring range at ⦠Travis is the premiere distance swimmer in this class, but she gets boxed out a little bit just based on the relay options for pretty much everyone above her. At the 2020 Florida HS 3A State Championships, Thornsberry took about four seconds off of his old best in the 500 free, taking fourth in 4:32.34. Best Times: 100 breast – 53.48, 200 breast – 1:55.26, 200 IM – 1:48.91. He only dropped a couple tenths in each this year and had a similar drop in the 100 fly (49.8 to 49.6). He’s an outstanding long course swimmer (2:15 in the 200 and 1:03 in the 100) with a very efficient breaststroke. Her senior year drops were mostly confined to long course. That’s a little unorthodox for women, but is maybe a new wave of the stroke, popularized by Katie Ledecky. Best Times: 100 fly – 52.31, 200 fly – 1:54.71, 400 IM – 4:12.64 200 IM – 1:59.31, 100 breast – 1:01.22, 200 breast – 2:13.67. Best Times: 100 breast – 58.35, 50 free – 22.01, 200 breast – 2:09.50, 100 free – 48.69, 100 fly – 53.86. Best Times: 100 fly – 46.25, 200 fly – 1:45.11, 200 IM – 1:46.53, 50 free – 20.25. We haven't received any results for this season yet. Travis’s best is just two seconds off NCAA scoring level in the mile and only about three seconds off in the 500. That takes her from a really good recruit to one of the best 100 breaststroke prospects we’ve ever ranked, and close behind Walsh for the top sprint time in the class. 10â13, 2019 Richmond, VA; TYR Pro Swim Series - Richmond Time Trials. While our recruiting ranks do take long course times into account at some level, we’re projecting the best NCAA (aka short course yards) values, so all of these swimmers have transferred their speed over to the short course pool at least fairly well.
